Filippo Gallino (Piedmonte, Italy)
In the Roero green hills, not far from Canale and Alba towns, Filippo and Maria with their children Gianni and Laura spend the whole day in the vineyards taking care and carefully select the variety of grapes from which they will get their wines.
It’s difficult to say when the Gallinos started to make wines because their origin are lost in time. Certainly Stefano Gallino born in 1857 was already producing Barbera and Nebbiolo. Afterwards his son Felice (Licin) born in 1904 and the younger Filippo born in 1939 together they gave origin to the family business. Since then the farm gives its active contribute in growing quality of the wines products in this area and the fame of Roero all over the world.
Since 1972, Gallino winery was among the first farms able to enhance and bring to the market the white grape Roero Arneis, well known today in the international markets as one of the best Italian white wines.
Thanks the precious help from his friend and famous wine maker/consultant Matteo Correggia, Filippo started the production of superior wines in 1994, coming from a careful pruning of grapes and a wise aging in small barriques. A couple of harvests later came important rewards from the well-known wine magazines.Since a long time, Filippo’s son, Gianni, has adopted too the most advanced technologies to follow with passion the winery and cave.
Gianni’s sister Laura too, grown up among fields and vineyards, working hard together with his father Filippo and mother Maria, has abandoned for several years other activities to dedicate herself entirely to the family farm. She take care directly about many activities: from the work in the vineyards to the management and all the necessary activities to follow national and international businesses.
Recently, the Gallino winery received numerous awards (like several 3 glasses from Gambero Rosso) for their Barberas, Nebbiolos and Roeros.
