A refined crisp Burgundy-style Pinot Blanc, single vineyard selection, very dry and partially matured in barriques - an ideal companion for spicy fish dishes.

Single Vineyard KIRCHBERG (“Church Hill”)

The Castell Kirchberg is a slope of up to 20% incline exposed to south-west. The soil consists of Gipskeuper, streaked with alabaster. Curiously, some of this very alabaster from this vineyard was used for the construction of the altar of the county church  (built in 1788).

Grape

Pinot Blanc is the brightest of all Pinot varietals, and is known since the 14th century. It is likely developed by a mutation of Pinot Gris, which in turn evolved from the Pinot Noir. A relatively new grape varietal in Castell winery.

Vinification

Grapes were selectively hand-picked on 24th October 2013 at 96° Oechsle, temperature-controlled
fermentation at 17°C, five months left on the yeast, 10% of the wine is matured in barriques

Tasting Notes

Bouquet: Inviting fresh nose of quince, almond bitter, elderflower, grapefruit

Palate: Harmoniously round and creamy, fine animating acidity, the aftertaste shows nice interplay of fruit and minerality

Enjoyment Recommendation: At 8-10°C an ideal companion for example suckling pig, boiled beef, spicy fish dishes
